The total amount of support so far is approximately 359,260,000 yen (as of March 2026). The initiative supports the improvement of educational environments for children in cocoa-producing countries, efforts to address child labor issues, and initiatives to increase income for cocoa farmers, using a portion of the sales of the products. '1 Choco for 1 Smile' has set aside a special period each year, and has implemented a campaign where 1 yen is donated for each purchase of an item, targeting products sold in supermarkets, convenience stores, and other retail outlets. Since 2023, the campaign has expanded to include original design products made through 'Okashi Print', and this is the third year of the initiative. During the special period, 1 yen will be donated for each purchase of the 'Okashi Print' 'Original Kogane' and 'Original Cale de Chocolat'. This campaign contributes to the achievement of the SDGs for customers. 'We want to connect the smiles of people who eat chocolate and the children in the cocoa countries, and to connect them to the future.' This is the idea of Morinaga Confectionery. Reference: '1 Choco for 1 Smile' timeline Morinaga Confectionery launched the '1 Choco for 1 Smile' initiative to support children in cocoa-producing countries, in commemoration of the company's 110th anniversary in 2008. In the countries near the equator where cocoa is produced, there are problems such as insufficient educational environments, economic difficulties, and children being forced to work. '1 Choco for 1 Smile' is an activity that supports the improvement of educational environments for children in cocoa-producing countries, efforts to address child labor issues, and initiatives to increase income for cocoa farmers, using a portion of the sales of the products. The partners for the support activities are the international NGO Plan International and the Japanese NGO ACE (Aces). In addition to annual donations, the initiative also implements customer participation-based support activities, where actions such as product purchases and campaign participation can lead to donations. Children who were elementary school students when the initiative started are now working adults, and the children who were supported are now pursuing education and employment. A total of approximately 359,260,000 yen (as of March 2026) has been supported so far.
