What it is

Mori Art Museum has announced the schedule for its 2027 exhibition program. The exhibition, titled 'The World is Made of Play: Art, Children, and Society,' will run from April 29, 2027 (Thursday, Holiday) to September 23, 2027 (Thursday, Holiday). Through 'play,' which is born from curiosity and a spirit of exploration, we encounter the world. Losing track of time while enjoying, getting completely absorbed in trial and error, we discover our own initiative and potential, and find a place for ourselves in society.

Play also has the power to challenge the countless rules and customs embedded in daily life, and to magically transform the familiar scenery. This exhibition will re-examine 'play' as an activity that unleashes imagination, from the perspective of contemporary art. The exhibition will feature works that encourage spontaneous play, immersive installations that shake the senses and cognition, projects that question social norms, and participatory works that explore new forms of coexistence. One of the characteristics of this exhibition is to position children as important collaborators in the creation of the exhibition. By incorporating the children's perspective, the museum will gently re-examine the adult-centered experience of appreciation that it has long taken for granted, and explore a new way of being for an exhibition open to society. The renovation and reopening is scheduled for late April 2028.
