Fujii is known for video installation works that combine cinematic techniques with documentary-style recordings, rethinking history in his own way. His work, which responds to contemporary social issues and critically analyzes them, has drawn attention both in Japan and abroad. The exhibition focuses on the central theme of 'light = truth' in Plato's 'Republic' Book 7, the 'Parable of the Cave.' Instead of asking what the light illuminates, Fujii turns the question around, asking 'Who is illuminating this light?' and critically re-examines the structure of truth. In response to this question, the exhibition displays 22 pieces from the Ishibashi Foundation Collection and about ten of Fujii's works, including new pieces, along a timeline from ancient times to the modern era and post-war period. Fujii Hikaru is an artist who creates works exploring art, history, and society using diverse media such as installations, videos, and workshops. His practice starts from specific historical moments or social issues, and is based on research and fieldwork. Through his works, he explores modern and historical crises and structural violence, and investigates their impact and meaning on humans and non-humans. He has participated in many exhibitions, including Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art, M+, MMCA (Korea), Centre Pompidou (Mess), Kadist (Paris), HKW (Berlin), and international art festivals such as Asia-Pacific Triennale (2021) and Arles International Photography Festival (2024). He received the Tokyo Contemporary Art Award 2020 - 2022. Exhibition Name: Jam Session Ishibashi Foundation Collection x Fujii Hikaru WHOSE LIGHT? - who's light?
