What it is
This is an announcement for 'MAM Project 035,' which features artist Brie Rye, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Rye creates sculptural works that focus on the materiality of clay, the physicality of the artist's own body, and performance elements. Her notable series includes works formed by full-body movements such as pressing, stretching, and scraping clay that weighs the same as her own body weight. These pieces, which incorporate the traces of the body, reflect individual existence and experience.

Their powerful movements and emotional expression represent a unique artistic practice that fuses the characteristics of earth and bodily actions. The exhibition presents new works created after Rye's artist-in-residence program at Shiga Prefectural Ceramics Forest, where she researched Japanese soil and the history of ceramics. The works, born from an intimate dialogue between earth and the body, re-examine the relationship between our bodies, the land, and individual existence. - Brie Rye 'Translating the Bloom of the Body, 130 Pounds + 130 Pounds' 2026, porcelain, glaze, hardware, 304.8×299.7×7.6 cm, Image provided by Night Gallery, Los Angeles. *Reference illustration [Left] - Brie Rye 'Expanding Outward, Crescent Moon, 130 Pounds' 2023, porcelain, glaze, hardware, 196.2×189.9×8.3 cm, *Reference illustration [Right] - Brie Rye 'Expanding Outward, New Moon, 130 Pounds' 2023, porcelain, glaze, hardware, 194.9×202.6×7.6 cm, Image provided by Night Gallery, Los Angeles.
